BIG TREE, A 2D tree as urban icon
Created for the Amsterdam Light Festival, Big Tree stands in front of the Carré Theatre, between the Amstel river and the Magere Brug bridge.
Made up of multiple coloured LED branches, this large, minimalist two-dimensional sign draws a monumental tree with a massive, generous energy. The gesture is deliberately simple: a bar, a light, a coloured branch… enough to create a new icon for the city, echoing the abstract pattern of its canals, between earth and sky.
Refreshing and striking, Big Tree stands out as a landmark in public space, just as legible by day, as a graphic sign, as it is by night, as a lit event.
